The upcoming Range Rover Sport Coupe could be the first model from the British marque to be offered with an electric drivetrain, reports claim.

Autocar asserts that the Sport Coupe will share its aluminum architecture with the Jaguar F-Pace and could be available with the same electric powertrain currently in development for the I-Pace EV from Jaguar. This setup is expected to debut some time next year and will allow the brand to meet California’s target of 15 per cent fleet mix of electric vehicles.

Alongside this powertrain, the Sport Coupe could come with a hybrid setup, similar to the 340 hp system used by the Range Rover Sport. Additionally, Jaguar Land Rover’s 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine with 542 hp on tap may be used by the range-topping model, offering similar performance to the impending F-Pace SVR.

In terms of the vehicle’s design, spy shots have revealed a four-door coupe design set to rival the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. Due to its aluminum underpinnings however, it could weigh less than its German competitors.
