Every great automobile marque needs to have its own museum. Porsche certainly does, but as part of the Volkswagen Group, it’s also represented at Autostadt. And now it has significantly expanded and renovated its pavilion there.

Never heard of Autostadt? It’s VW’s sprawling visitor’s compound adjacent to the company’s main factory and headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany.

Among the various attractions at Autostadt are pavilions for each of the brands under the company’s enormous umbrella (with a combined Premium Clubhouse for Bentley and Bugatti).

Porsche’s opened in 2012 after the brand’s integration into the group, and won numerous awards. And now it has undergone a major overhaul, expanding nearly eight-fold from 700 square feet to nearly 5,500.

In that vastly expanded space, Porsche is displaying a range of its 28 historic and current models in 1:3 scale, from the 356 and 718 RS 60 Spyder to the latest 911, 718, and Panamera.

There’s a special exhibit dedicated to the 919 Hybrid with which it has dominated Le Mans and the FIA World Endurance Championship, and two special exhibitions each year.

The whole thing is tied together through customizable guided tours via iPad, and makes us want to visit Autostadt in the near future even more than we already did.
