Since the all-new Holden Commodore is unlikely to turn into a sporty pickup anytime soon, Ute fans and potential customers would be right to start feeling neglected.

Now, before you shoot down the possibility of ever seeing a BMW 5-Series Ute, we’ll remind you of those wacky Australians who built one out of an early 2000 M5 E39  (see it here) back in 2008.

Obviously, this is not the first time we’ve seen a Ute render. We still remember drawings such as the Audi Prologue Ute or the all-new A4 in Ute form, but in reality they will never, ever see the light of day.

Speaking of reality, let’s set it aside for a second and take a closer look at this M550i xDrive Ute penned by Theophilus Chin. It would presumably pack the same 4.4-liter biturbo V8 that’s good for 462 PS (455 HP) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque, and allows for a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration time of 4 seconds flat.

In Ute form however, it might be even quicker seen as how it would be missing half of its roof, two doors and the rear seats. All that weight saving should count for something, right?
