The all-new Alpine A110 has yet to arrive at dealers, but this isn’t stopping the revived French brand to consider yet another vehicle – an SUV.

Speaking to insiders with knowledge on the matter, AutoExpress says that the Alpine SUV will be introduced in 2019, and it will be a very important model for the company, as it’s expected to provide them with the necessary revenue to make the sports car profitable.

From a visual point of view, the as-of-yet unnamed vehicle is believed to be inspired by the A110, while inside, users should expect a plusher cabin, which will help it challenge the likes of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, and Porsche Macan.

Despite having access to different platforms in the Renault-Nissan Alliance, the Alpine SUV is said to be offered with rear- and all-wheel drive, so the brand could have turned to Mercedes-Benz or even Infiniti for the right architecture.

One of the engines that should power it at first is the 1.8-liter turbo’d four, delivering some 300 horses. It’s still too early to talk about larger-capacity units, but officials within Alpine have previously suggested a hybrid, and even a fully electric powertrain.

Prices for the Alpine SUV could start at roughly £40,000 (equal to $52,417) in the United Kingdom, undercutting the Porsche Macan by approximately £6,000 ($7,863).
