Getting behind the wheel of a classic car like the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Ti means respecting its racing heritage, so losing control while driving one is a nightmare scenario.

Thankfully, this footage shows how motoring journalist Dickie Meaden almost lost control of the Giulietta, the key word being almost, as he managed to recover the slide before anything bad happened.

Had his reflexes been a split second off, the car could have ended up on the grass with all four wheels, spun a lot worse and then who knows? It’s always good to see somebody remaining poised during situations such as this one.

The incident occurred during part two of the St Mary’s Trophy at Goodwood, just as Meaden was involved in a dog fight against another racer.

As for why the Alfa’s rear end suddenly decided to slide around, a closer look shows how the driver clipped the inside of the curb just before the car got out of shape. It doesn’t look like much, but it was enough to destabilize the Giulietta, especially at that speed.
