Alfa Romeo may have pushed back its 5-Series size sedan until early next decade but the Italian company is pushing ahead with its plans for a Giulia Coupe.

Automotive News reports that the long-awaited two-door Giulia will arrive before the end of next year and directly target the BMW 4-Series, Audi A5 and Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe.

In February, it was reported that the Giulia Coupe, potentially dubbed the Sprint, could have premiered at March’s Geneva Motor Show. However, that failed to materialize.

Creating a Giulia Coupe seems like a logical step for the company. Not only would it be relatively cheap to develop (compared to a new car), it would broaden the appeal of the sports car and encourage prospective Mercedes, BMW and Audi buyers to have a taste of the Italian beauty.

If and when the Giulia Coupe comes to the fore, it will almost certainly be offered with the same range of engines as the sedan, including the range-topping 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6.
