Toyota, Mazda and Denso To Build EVs From A Joint Venture

Toyota, Mazda and Denso have agreed to establish a new company as a joint development center for electric vehicles.

The new company will be called EV C.A. Spirit and will be based in Japan, employing engineers from all partners. Toyota will hold the 90 percent of the new venture, with Mazda and Denso each having from 5 percent.

The goal of the new venture is to develop basic structural EV technologies in order to cover a wide variety of vehicle types. These technologies will be used in future all-electric models from Toyota and Mazda and include passenger cars, SUVs and light trucks.

All new EVs from Toyota and Mazda will be based on the former’s TNGA modular platform, with Denso providing its expertise in electronics and Mazda bringing their efficient product planning to the table.

The participating companies also say that their new joint venture remains open for other manufacturers and suppliers to join in.
