Replacing a successful model like the Range Rover Evoque isn’t easy and Land Rover sure takes its time to work on a successor.

After all the Range Rover Evoque became basically Land Rover’s license to print money, having sold more than 600,000 units since its debut in 2011.

We already have seen Land Rover testing an Evoque mule but this is the first time we see a development car on the other side of the Atlantic, thanks to our good reader Scott who spotted it in Glendale, Arizona.

Land Rover is reportedly gunning for an evolved version of the Evoque’s popular design choices, adopting along the way elements from the larger Velar which might even include the characteristic flush door handles.

The company will keep the second-gen Evoque based on the same D8 architecture which will be updated in a few key points, including a slightly longer wheelbase for more rear legroom and boot space.

The new Evoque will also offer JLR’s latest technologies in the infotainment and active safety areas, as well as an improved version of the Terrain response system. The engine range will continue using the Ingenium family of petrol and diesel engines, but whether there will be an electrified version remains to be seen, as the platform isn’t currently suitable for a hybrid powertrain.

Expect to see the second generation Evoque in late 2018, with a market launch in early 2019. Until then stay tuned for more info as we have them.

H/T To Scott!
