Apparently squeezing an additional 102hp and 128lb-ft (174Nm) of torque from the 4.0-liter V8 engine that powers the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² makes it an “ultimate off-road machine” for Renntech.

The extra oomph brings total output to 518hp and 578lb-ft (784Nm) of torque, and we’re absolutely fine with that, but the tuning company’s latest project has a serious competitor – the Brabus 550 Adventure 4×4².

Unlike Renntech, which called it a day after tuning the ECU and adding a BOV adapter and downpipes, Brabus went the extra mile and massaged the twin-turbo V8 lump to an even more impressive 542hp and 590lb-ft (800Nm) of torque. They claim that it needs just 6.7sec for the naught to 62mph (100km/h) sprint, before topping out at 130mph (209km/h), and that’s very respectable, considering that it tips the scale at roughly 3 tons (6,614lbs).

Additionally, the more civilized version of the of the Mercedes-AMG G63 6×6, which comes with ‘just’ two axles, was also fitted with other features by Brabus, which could be called flashy by some, but then again, that’s the whole idea of turning to a tuning company to tweak your ride, isn’t it?

So, where would your money be if you had a Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² and a generous budget to tune it – Renntech or Brabus?
