Surprise, surprise: the second-generation Audi A1 will get an Allroad version for the first time.

Fresh off a visit to the 2018 Paris Auto Show, the 2019 A1 will be able to explore new territories thanks to a jacked-up Allroad version Audi has in the cards.

Want proof? These are the first spy shots of the upcoming Audi A1 Allroad, spotted on and around the Nürburgring Nordschleife racetrack.

Yes, even Allroad models must pass the “Green Hell” test nowadays. While it may not look like an Allroad model at first glance, a closer look blows its cover. It features a slightly higher ride height, a new grille, and wider wheel arches.

The camouflage covers strategic areas including the fenders, side sills, and bumpers, all of which will be unique to the A1 Allroad. The bumpers will likely feature skid plates at their lower ends and additional plastic cladding, while the side sills will be wider and will feature protective material as well.

The big question is whether the A1 Allroad will feature a quattro all-wheel-drive system or not. Since the upcoming Audi S1 will be AWD, we’d be surprised if the A1 Allroad won’t be as well. In that case, the A1 Allroad would become an interesting rival for the Q2.

There’s no information on the engines available for the A1 Allroad, but chances are only the most powerful units will be eligible. Expect the slightly more rugged A1 model to debut sometime next year.
