If you like the new Vanquish and have $300,000 to spare (actually, a little less at $297,995, to be precise - just as long as you avoid the temptation of ticking any option boxes) and prefer to see the sun instead of the coupe's headliner, Aston Martin has just presented the open top version dubbed Volante.

Among the many features highlighted by Aston Martin is the fact that the new Vanquish Volante is the first fully carbon fibre-skinned and simultaneously, stiffest convertible model in the brand’s 100-year history. The full height windscreens is another first for an open top Aston.

Aston Martins are behind many exotic brands when it comes to technology and engines, but what they are good at more than makes up for that. For instance, in my opinion, the design of the new Vanquish is their best effort since they first drew up the modern DB9 (still a reference point in terms of clean GT/coupe looks). In addition, it’s hugely customizable because it’s hand-made, and the reworked V12 engine now sounds better than ever.

Car reviews are a great way for potential car buyers to get informed about the vehicle they're planning to purchase, by reading the opinions of road test editors. However, one is often left wondering if the information presented (either text or video) is simply an interpretation – one person's view, and therefore it cannot be considered fully accurate.

So, why not have driver's eye footage of the car being driven, with no commentary, and just try to see what it's like? Sure, it's not ideal, but then neither are classic reviews or actually going to all the trouble to get to drive something really expensive, like the latest Aston Martin Vanquish.

It appears that the limited-production One-77 had a double mission: put some much-needed cash into Aston Martin’s coffers, something it certainly did with a price tag in excess of US$1 million, and to act as a test-bed for technologies used in other production models.
