DaimlerChrysler-soon-to-be-called-just-Daimler announced it’s recalling 1.650 units of its recently introduced 2008 Smart Fortwo due to a possible defect with the steering. In particular, DC stated that it ordered the recall after receiving reports that a locking ring was not affixed properly but noted that no accidents or injuries were reported. DaimlerChrysler spokesman Hubert Kogel said the all the cars had been recalled, repaired and were being returned to their owners. Since the second generation Fortwo went on sale in May, Smart has sold 12.200 units of its microcar.
