Volkswagen’s Czech subsidiary Skoda is planning to introduce a new minicar in order to meet growing demand for small cars in emerging markets. In an interview with FTD (Financial Times Deutschland) Skoda’s boss, Reinhard Jung said that he believes that there is still space beneath the Fabia, which is currently the company’s smallest and cheapest model.

Skoda’s minicar will utilize the platform and underpinnings of the production version of VW’s up! Concept. Jung told FTD that the new model will play a key role in expanding production in Skoda’s plants in Russia, India and China.
