Rumorville: Renault-Nissan Seeking to buy 20% of Chrysler LLC

Another day, another Chrysler LLC rumor. This time the Detroit News is reporting that the Renault-Nissan alliance has made a proposal to obtain a 20 percent stake in Chrysler LLC from Cerberus. Citing sources familiar with the matter, the newspaper said that the Carlos Ghosn, CEO of both Renault SA and Nissan Motor Co., has already sent an offer that included revisions to a draft agreement prepared by Cerberus. So what gives? Well, if we are to believe Detroit News and its sources that are supposedly close to the talks, then it is almost certain that Cerberus will wrap up a deal -one way or another- with either Renault-Nissan or General Motors.

If indeed true, then there’s a good possibility that we’ll see a deal being struck before the U.S. presidential elections on November 4 as politicians tend to be more open to requests at that time for federal aid to complete a merger. What can we say other than that we’re really curious to see how this story will develop over the forthcoming weeks.
