If anything else, when you spend anything from US$90,000 for an entry level S500 to over US$200,000 for a fully equipped S65 AMG, you would at least expect that you’d be able to open or lock the doors of your car… Unfortunately that’s not the case for 54 owners of the 2009 Mercedes-Benz S-Class in the U.S., as a supplier blunder in the part number label of the door locks resulted in a mismatch of the front and rear passenger side door locks.

And what does this mean for the owners of the affected vehicles? Well, according to Mercedes-Benz, the exchange of the front and a rear passenger side door locks results in a passenger side door that cannot be opened by only pulling the interior handle and a rear door lock that can be opened with a simple pull of the interior door handle even when it is locked…

Mercedes-Benz said that its dealers will check the part number on all door locks of the affected cars and replace any incorrectly installed door lock free of charge.
