It appears that carmakers have a love-connection with Australian pop singer, Kylie Minogue. Following a recent collaboration with Lexus for the European launch of the Lexus CT200h, the Melbourne-born star signed an advertising partnership with Volkswagen to promote the new Golf Cabriolet. Minogue has already filmed the first TV commercial for Wolfsburg’s new convertible model that aired in Germany this week.
The TV spot shows Kylie Minogue behind the wheel of a 2012 Golf Cabriolet with the top down enjoying a drive on a sunny day. According to Volkswagen, a strawberry-filled basket on the front passenger seat acts as a reference to the nickname of the previous generation of the Golf Cabriolet. Using the tagline “Enjoy the summer”, the commercial announces the car’s market launch in Germany this summer.
“Kylie Minogue supported us in a special advertising campaign for the new Golf convertible. She fits perfectly in every respect to this vehicle: both are true style icons with millions of fans,” commented Matthias Becker, VW Germany marketing manager.
Along with the new campaign, VW announced today that it invites fans to submit bespoke summer greetings, with the most inspired author to win a week in Cannes on the French Riviera where he or she will be able to test-drive the Golf Cabriolet. The drop top Golf is already available to order, with first deliveries scheduled for this summer.
