What do you get when you cross a pickup truck with a buggy? If you ask the guys at Nelson Racing Engines [NRE], the answer is a Truggie. Combining the bodywork of a Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck with a Buggie chassis and a ridiculous 1750HP 427 SBC Twin Turbo Hot Rod Series engine, the “Mad Max” Truggie is described by NRE as “the craziest truck we’ve had in the shop to date.”

Commissioned by one Bill Burgeois, the extreme AWD desert racer has a mid-mounted aluminum engine linked to a 5-speed sequential gearbox fitted with a torque converter. The outrageous maximum output of 1,750 horsepower is achieved with race gasoline fuel, with power dropping to 1,100 ponies on regular gasoline, as you can see in the dyno video below.

Scroll down to see what it is like to drive the 1750HP Truggie in the city and check out its practical side as well, as the owner takes it to a…drive-in restaurant.
