For all those Mercedes-Benz customers that find the regular AMG variants too tame for their tastes, the Stuttgart automaker’s sports car division has come up with a special series of cars that carry the Black Series nameplate.

The Black Series AMG models can be identified by their more extreme bodywork and beefed up performance along with a price tag to match their abilities.

Not even Mercedes-Benz’s top offering, the SLS AMG gullwing-door supercar, can escape the Black Series treatment. A lightly disguised prototype version of the SLS AMG Black Series edition was captured by our scoop photographers while testing on the Nürburgring track.

Most evident are the widened wheel arches that cover the larger wheels than the standard model’s 265/35ZR19 front and 295/30ZR20 rear tires and the modified bumpers that are hiding beneath the camouflage.

From there on, it’s all speculation for now, but it’s almost certain that the SLS AMG Black Series will gain a more powerful version of the regular car’s 563HP V8 engine, possibly with 650HP or more, as well as a stiffer, more track focused suspension.

We expect to see the new Black Series making its world premiere sometime next year.
