We were right to assume that Maruti Suzuki would present an off-road concept at this week’s Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi, but the XA ALPHA doesn’t appear to preview a replacement for the Jimny 4×4 (or at least not directly) as it leans more towards the crossover segment being based on the platform architecture of the Swift supermini.

Designed in cooperation with Suzuki’s Indian partner Maruti, the XA ALPHA borrows several styling cues from the Swift such as the profile window line and the blacked out A-pillars.

The five-door model measures 4 meters in length, which makes it a little bit longer than the current Swift (3,850mm long).

Suzuki did not disclose any other information on the concept model.

During the presentation of the crossover at the New Delhi Auto Show, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki, Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi said:

“The Concept XA is designed for a market of customers with a young urban lifestyle. This Concept showcases the unified R&D efforts of Suzuki and Maruti which will be a big asset for us in India in the future”.

If the concept ends up inspiring a production model, it will most likely be offered with a similar engine range to the Swift.
