It was rumored for a long time that Land Rover was mulling the development of an open-top version of its Range Rover Evoque crossover and now, the British automaker has lifted the wraps off a concept version ahead of its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

As it seems, Land Rover wants to measure reactions at a couple of international events that will very likely include the New York Auto Show in April before it gives the green light for the production model, which could follow as early as next year.

The Range Rover Evoque Convertible is of course based on the three-door variant and features a powered soft-top roof with a glass rear screen that tucks away neatly under a plastic cover located behind the rear seats.

“The Evoque Convertible Concept is a new twist to the Evoque story and explores the potential to further extend the nameplate’s appeal by giving existing customers more choice, whilst at the same time reaching out to a completely new customer base,” commented John Edwards, Land Rover Global Brand Director.

“We are excited to see the response to this concept as we assess the potential for building on the Evoque’s exceptional success so far,” he added.

If Land Rover officials go ahead and produce the Convertible, it would be offered with the same four-cylinder diesel and gasoline engines as the hard-top model with the option of two or four-wheel drive.
