The 2012 edition of the well-known Mille Miglia classic rally that takes place in Italy from May 16 to 20 will see John Elkann, Chairman of Fiat, participate with a rare example of the Fiat 8V sports coupe series that was built between 1952 and 1954.

The heir of Gianni Agnell said that he will be accompanied by his wife, Lavinia Borromeo, who will take on the role of navigator and co-driver.

Named after its V-shaped 8-cylinder 2.0-liter engine, the classic Fiat sport’s car was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1952 in an effort to boost the brand’s image.

Among other highlights, the 8V was the first production Fiat to be fitted with an independent suspension on all four corners while it successfully took part in numerous racing events during the 1950s.
