Last month, our spies caught up with a mule of the next generation Infiniti G37 undergoing tests in Europe.

As it seems, we will not have to wait long to see the actual production model as a high-level Nissan executive told Inside Line that the redesigned Infiniti G series will arrive in the States in the spring of 2013.

Andy Palmer, executive vice president of Nissan and Infiniti’s Global Business Unit, confirmed that “the new G will arrive a year from now”.

While Palmer would not reveal any further details about Infiniti’s new premium sedan model, when asked about the possibility of the Nissan group using a turbocharged V6 on its models like its German rivals, he said, “everybody is looking to deliver V8 power with V6 efficiency, so turbocharging often makes sense.”

It remains to be seen if Infiniti will keep its VQ series of V6 engines and if the Japanese automaker will make use of Mercedes-Benz’s powerplants as the alliance between the two companies deepens.

Potential candidates for the next G series from Mercedes’ engine lineup include a base turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline unit as well as a four-banger diesel the European market.
