A new remap of the engine control unit (ECU) of Ford’s European market 1.6-liter EcoBoost petrol engine by British tuner Superchips promises to lift output from 20hp to 34hp, depending on the application.

Superchips’ upgraded ECU can be used on the 1.6-liter turbocharged unit found on the C-MAX, Grand C-MAX, Focus, Galaxy MPV, S-MAX and Mondeo models covering the 150PS (148bhp,) 160PS (158 bhp) and 182PS (180bhp) variants of the range.

The British firm lists the following performance gains across the three 1.6-litre Ecoboost variants:

i) 150PS 1.6-litre Ford Ecoboost C-Max, Grand C-Max and Focus modelsSuperchips’ Bluefin gains 30bhp @ 5341rpm and 51Nm @ 1923rpm

ii) 160PS 1.6-litre Ford Ecoboost Galaxy, S-Max and Mondeo modelsSuperchips’ Bluefin gains 34bhp @ 5341rpm and 59Nm @ 1923rpm

iii) 182PS 1.6-litre Ford Ecoboost used in Ford FocusSuperchips’s Bluefin gains 20bhp @ 3760rpm and 44Nm @ 1923rpm

Regardless of the engine variant, UK pricing for the ECU reflash is £445 (€555 / US$705) including 20 percent VAT.
