While UK buyers would have surely preferred that Mazda launch a truly special edition of the MX-5 like the 205hp GT study heading to this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, for now, they’ll have to make do with yet another trim model with added equipment features and the usual sporty decals.

The latest special edition version is called the Kuro, which means ‘Black’ in Japanese, and it is available as a soft top model with the 124hp (126PS) 1.8-liter engine priced at £18,495, and as a Roadster Coupe (hardtop) with the 158hp (160PS) 2.0-liter engine that starts at £21,995 (OTR).

Both Kuro models feature dark accents in the form of the Brilliant Black roof, door mirrors and gunmetal 17-inch alloy wheels, and are available with a choice of three exterior colors including, Velocity Red Mica, Crystal White Pearlescent and Brilliant Black.

There’s also a diffuser-style rear sports bumper, larger diameter sports exhaust, race car inspired exterior graphics, Black detailing around the front grille and front fog lights, plus unique ‘Kuro Edition’ badging.

As for the interior, the MX-5 Kuro gets bespoke Stone and Black heated leather seats, Stone leather door inserts, with contrasting red stitching, a silver interior deco panel with red accents, alloy pedals, floor mats with race inspired logo and climate control air-conditioning.
