The Renault Group is preparing a replacement to one of its most successful models, the Dacia Logan, which was first introduced onto the market in 2004.

Designed from the beginning as an affordable car to buy and maintain, the Logan has been sold around the world under different brands and names including Renault Logan, Nissan Aprio (Mexico), Mahindra Verito (India) and Renault Tondar 90 (Iran).

Since 2004, the French group has delivered 1,110,397 Logans under the Dacia brand and 1,053,215 cars with the Renault logo.

The new Logan will continue Dacia’s philosophy of a simple, affordable and hardy small sedan wrapped in a more modern looking skin. These spy pictures of a prototype model suggest that in sedan form, the Logan will also grow slightly in size.

Aside from the saloon seen here, Dacia and Renault will eventually enhance the Logan’s range with a hatchback, a pickup truck, an estate and a van.

The Logan will be offered with a more modern engine and transmission lineup that will help improve its fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions.

For the first time, the Logan will also be offered in the United Kingdom, as the launch of the Dacia brand in the country is set for January 2013.

We could see Dacia previewing the new Logan with a concept as early as this fall at the Paris Motor Show with the final production model to be most likely unveiled at next year’s Geneva Salon.
