Over the past couple of weeks, Mazda has been teasing us with a string of videos outlining the shape and main characteristics of the brand-new Mazda6 (called Atenza in Japan), but now we can show the very first official image of the mid-size saloon, courtesy of the Japanese brand’s Russian arm.

The single image reveals the Mazda6’s dynamic-looking front end which keeps the curves and lines of the highly cited 2011 Takeri Concept – albeit toned down a notch (or two) for mainstream consumption.

We’re still foggy on the details, but we do know that the new Mazda6 is the second vehicle in the brand’s range after the CX-5 crossover to fully embrace the SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and which brings a lightweight modular platform and a suite of clean gasoline and, for the first time in North America, diesel engines as well.

The Japanese carmaker’s Honda Accord, Ford Mondeo/Fusion and VW Passat challenger will debut at the Paris Motor Show in September and go on sale worldwide (as a 2014 model in North America) in early 2013.
