Some three years after the all-new Bentley Mulsanne marched into the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2009, the VW Group-owned automaker returned to this year’s edition of the classic car show in California with a new conceptual model for an open top version of the Mulsanne.

While Bentley showed the Mulsanne Convertible Concept to a select number of people at this past weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the company did not allow any pictures to be shot of the car.

Instead, the British premium carmaker released a handful of drawings that give us a rough look at the new concept model that is fitted with a folding soft top and is based on the Mulsanne sedan.

Commenting on the Mulsanne Convertible Concept, Bentley Chairman and Chief Executive Wolfgang Dürheimer said:

“The modern, luxurious, high-tech Mulsanne saloon provides a perfect foundation on which to create the world’s most elegant convertible. The Convertible Concept will extend the appeal of the Mulsanne family, while enhancing the profile of the Bentley brand, particularly in new and emerging markets.”

Evidently, Bentley is and will continue to test the waters with the Mulsanne Convertible over the next few months before it makes a final decision on whether it will green light a production model.

The automaker did not release any details on the cabriolet’s specifications, but the luxurious two-door, four-seater model likely rides on a shortened wheelbase while using the same 505bhp (512PS/377 kw) twin-turbocharged 6¾-litre V8 employed in the regular Mulsanne saloon.
