The pure-electric version of Mercedes-Benz’s SLS AMG Gullwing supercar was revealed earlier than anticipated, no thanks to German publication AMS that leaked the first photos of the production model ahead of its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show

The new SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive is the second model in the brand’s range after the B-Class concept to incorporate the “Electric Drive” designation, which will be used on all battery-powered electric passenger cars from Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG and Smart.

The high-tech SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive utilizes four electric motors positioned close to the wheels, and which produce a combined output of 740Hp (552kW or 751PS) and a maximum torque of 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft), making it the most powerful production AMG model of all time.

The battery-powered SLS AMG is said to accelerate from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in just 3.9 seconds with its top speed electronically governed at 250km/h (155mph).

First deliveries of the limited run SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive will begin in July of 2013 with prices in Germany starting at a whopping €416,500 (US$536,200 at the current exchange rates), or more than twice the cost of the petrol engine-powered SLS AMG GT (€204,680).
