Jaguar Designs a Concept Speedboat to go with its New XF Sportbrake

On the occasion of the international driving debut of its brand new XF Sportbrake that took place only a few weeks before the car arrives in European showrooms, Jaguar unveiled a bespoke speedboat concept to showcase the brand’s design DNA on a completely different product as well as to inspire buyers of the estate model.

“We recognise that both our existing and future customers enjoy diverse and active lifestyles,” explained Jaguar Director of Design, Ian Callum. “With the launch of the new Jaguar XF Sportbrake, we had an opportunity to create a vision of how our design philosophy might be applied to an alternative product, in which speed and beauty are also priorities.”

After consulting with yacht design specialist ‘Ivan Erdevicki Naval Architecture & Yacht Design’ and design project management company ‘Seventy Seven Design’, Jaguar proceeded with plans to build the conceptual boat that has a length of 6.1 meters or 20 feet.

The stylish 2+1 seater speedboat sports a gel coat fiberglass hull finished on top with a natural teak decking, which itself is split by a carbon fiber fin, said to be inspired by the Jaguar D-Type. In another nod to Jaguar’s history, the fuel filler caps imitate those used on the Series 1 XJ.

“The Concept Speedboat looks powerful,” said Callum. “It follows, in so many ways, the idea of a traditional speedboat but with the sleek and fast characteristics that you would expect from a Jaguar Car.”

Before you begin day-dreaming of an XF Sportbrake estate hauling the concept speedboat, Jaguar stated that it “has no plans to build or commercialise a boat of any kind”.
