Volkswagen has brought back to life the GTS nameplate for the modern day version of the Scirocco.

Unveiled to the public for the first time at the 2012 Leipzig Auto Show in Germany this past spring, the new Scirocco GTS is now available for sale across Europe with prices in its home market ranging from €28,100 (equal to US$36,700) to €33,525 (US$43,800).

The GTS trim level can be combined with a selection of five engines, including the 158hp (160PS) 1.4-liter TSI and 207Hp (210PS) 2.0-liter TSI petrols, and the 138Hp (140PS) 2.0-liter TDI / 2.0 TDI BlueMotion and 168Hp (170PS) 2.0-liter TDI diesels.

What makes the GTS stand out from the other Sciroccos is a cosmetics package that includes stripes running from the bonnet, over the roof and down to the tailgate, red-colored mirrors, and in the case of the 2.0 TSI, brake calipers as well, 18-inch wheels (19-inch optional), a rear spoiler sourced from the ‘R’ model, and a new rear bumper with a diffuser.

The interior of the GTS is adorned with black seats with red stitching, piano black lacquer accents on the dashboard, the flat-bottom steering (also with red stiches) and the door trims, the GTS logo on the front seatbacks and the edging around the floor mats, and a bespoke gear knob in what VW calls “golf ball” style.
