Besides offering Siri on its Spark and Sonic city cars, Chevy has also made sure that buyers of the all-new 2014 Impala won’t feel short-changed.

The bow tie’s mid-size saloon features the next-generation MyLink infotainment system that allows drivers to personalize their car’s interior by configuring the instruments and center screen by pushing a button.

The new MyLink offers four graphic appearances, similar to downloadable “skins” on smartphones, which can alter its appearance by accessing the Settings menu.

The four themes that are offered on the Impala, which goes on sale next spring, are the following:

  • Contemporary – Clean, simple interface that’s not overly colorful or busy, geared to busy moms and families.
  • Edge – Youth-oriented, dynamic feel with vibrant colors and pop culture-inspired icons.
  • Velocity – Sleek, with carbon fiber background appearance and glowing neon, aimed at driving enthusiasts.
  • Main Street – An all-around, crowd-pleasing design using primary colors; a typical customer may drive a truck and use it as a high-tech mobile office.

“People are able to modify the look and feel of their smartphones and computers; now they can do that with their car, too”, said Matt Fuligni, design manager, Chevrolet User Experience. “There is such a high level of attention, consistency and detail in the graphics on the cluster and center stack that they’ve become nearly as important to the overall interior look and feel as the color and trim”, he added.
