Volkswagen Group Sells Record Number of 7.5 Million Vehicles from January to October

If you’re wondering why the Volkswagen Group isn’t as worried as other carmakers in Europe and can even afford to provide better financial terms for buyers in the continent, all you have to do is look at the general picture that is its global sales numbers. From January to October this year, the German group increased its sales by 10.2 percent over last year surpassing the 7 million mark for the first time in this period. More specifically, the VW Group delivered 7.5 million cars in the first 10 months of the year, while in October, it sold 788,700 vehicles recording a 14.6 percent increase from the same month in 2011. VW said these numbers include deliveries by the Porsche brand from August 1, 2012, but exclude any sales from its truck divisions MAN and Scania. “The Volkswagen Group developed very well in October. We again put in a strong performance in North America, China and also Russia. However, market uncertainty continues, particularly in Western Europe”, VW Group Board Member for Sales Christian Klingler said in Wolfsburg on Friday. In the first 10 months of 2012, the group as a whole saw its sales North America rise 25.4 percent to 681,200 units, of which 481,100 (+33.5 percent) were delivered in the United States. In South America, it delivered 842,200 (+8.4 percent) vehicles during the same period, of which 644,000 (+9.7 percent) to Brazilian customers, while in the Asia-Pacific region, sales were up 19 percent to 2.56 million, of which 2.26 million (+19.6 percent) went to China. In India, deliveries grew 3.6 percent to 94,900 (91,700) vehicles, and in Russia, 46.7 percent to 262,000 cars. As for Europe, the group brands delivered 3.10 (+0.9 percent) million vehicles from January to October. Looking at the brands individually, we see VW passenger cars selling 4.72 million models (+11.2 percent) globally in the 10-month period, with Audi delivering 1.22 million (+12.9 percent), Skoda 795,100 (+7.2 percent), Seat 265,200 (-9.8 percent – the only brand with a negative sales performance) and VW Commercial vehicles, 455,000 (+5.0 percent).
