While fiddling around with Tesla’s new battery-powered Model S, the crew at Road&Track magazine wanted to have their 6 seconds of fame fun by performing something that looks, but never really sounds, like a proper burnout.

The result? As one commentator named Jason Pischke put it on the publication’s YouTube channel, “Well that was… ummm, I’m just going to go with awkward”.

We’ll remind you that the Model S in Signature Performance trim sports a rear-mounted electric motor churning out 416-horses and a constant torque of 443 lb-ft (600Nm) from a standing start, something that helps the car accelerate quickly or in this case, silently burn tires as well.

For 13 seconds of R&T intros, 3 seconds worth of viewing a parking lot and 6 seconds of some tire smoke, hit the break to watch the video.
