The brand with the four rings set a new sales record in the Chinese market last year delivering 405,838 vehicles in China and Hong Kong, representing a 29.6 percent increase over the previous year.

Of the 400,000 vehicles sold, 322,700 were built locally, including 89,488 examples of the Q5 SUVs (+64.9 percent), 132,872 A6L sedans (+17.3 percent) and 100,340 units of the long wheelbase version of the A4 (+18.7 percent), with the rest being imported from Europe.

Imports include the Q7 SUV of which 21,360 units were sold (up 10 percent), the A8/S8 luxury sedan with 18,857 deliveries (up 51.7 percent) and 2,145 units of the new Q3 SUV.

“In the year 2012, we continued the success story in our biggest sales market,” stated Luca de Meo, Member of the Board of Management for Sales and Marketing. “With this record we have increased our lead over the competition, further strengthening our number one position in the premium segment in China.”

Audi noted that last year, the number of dealerships in China was increased by 60 to approximately 290 in more than 130 cities around the country.
