Tesla CEO and co-founder Elon Musk lashed out at a recent review of the Model S published by The New York Times, calling the story about the all-electric sedan failing to meet its reported range “a fake”.

More specifically, on February 8, The N.Y. Times ran a story in which John M. Broder recounted how he took a drive in a Model S on the East Coast Interstate 95 and found out that the car failed to meet its advertised 300-mile (480 km) range “in ideal conditions” while driving in temperatures as low as 10 degrees Fahrenheit (-12 degrees Celsius).

Tesla Blog coming soon detailing what actually happened on Broder’s NYTimes ‘range test’. Also lining up other journalists to do same drive”, Musk tweeted today. “Vehicle logs tell true story that he didn’t actually charge to max and took a long detour”, he added.

After the story was published on the newspaper, Tesla shares, which had gained 23 percent in the last 12 months, fell by as much as 4.4 percent on Monday, the most since December 13, before closing down on 2 percent.
