The Government Employees Insurance Company –you all know it as GEICO- has promoted its business through many quirky television ads that usually encompass the tagline, “15 minutes could save you 15 percent or more on car insurance“, and which have starred a number of different characters, ranging from a caveman to an anthropomorphic Day Gecko, and more recently, Maxwell the Pig. Most people perceive the commercials as funny, but one particular ad with Maxwell the Pig has earned the wrath of a Mississippi website named “One Million Moms”, run by conservative Christian group American Family Association (AFA). Why, hear you ask? Well, because according to a statement released by One Million Moms, the emergency roadside assistance ad promotes the wrong kind of love…between a woman and a pig – no really, we’re not kidding, just check out the release that follows the jump and then watch the commercial, if you haven’t done so already.
Press Statement from One Million Moms: “Maxwell the Geico pig goes on a date in Geico’s new piggy commercial. In Geico commercial, the pig and a young female are in a parked car on a lover’s lane. The car is actually broken down, but while sitting there the girl appears to be turned on by the pig. She hints that she wants to make out. She is disappointed when she learns the tow truck is on the way and they won’t be able to “pass the time.” “Geico has succeeded in offending its customers with this inappropriate advertisement. One Million Moms has received numerous complaints because Geico’s new commercial plays with the idea of bestiality. Parents find this type of advertising repulsive and unnecessary. Airing a commercial with an animal in it will surely grab children’s attention, but this is a horrible commercial for families to see. Geico does not have our children’s best interest in mind.” “The Geico Marketing Team may have thought this would be humorous, but it is disgusting to see how the company takes lightly the act of bestiality. Let Geico know their new ad is irresponsible.”
