New Alfa Romeo Rumors About a Maserati-Based Executive Saloon

Alfa Romeo, as a brand image, really stirs up the soul, and you only need to drive one to see why. Even their newer and more mainstream offerings still preserve some of the Alfa magic, so there’s considerable and understandable interest for them to increase their range of cars, which is currently extremely limited. According to Car magazine, Alfa is now considering making a BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class rival, which would share its underpinnings with the upcoming Maserati Ghibli. This means that it would be either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, which is really good news as it would be able to compete with the establishment on equal terms. It would get the usual slew of four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, all of which will most likely be turbocharged. A diesel 2.0-liter is necessary, though, as it would boost volume sales for fleets and the more cost-conscious European buyers. If this proves to be true, then expect to see Alfa Romeo mention it in an official fashion some time before its projected debut, in 2015. Note, though, that in 2012, Fiat group CEO, Sergio Marchionne said the brand was actually focusing on the MiTo, Giulietta and an even more important 159-replacement. It seems that plans have changed yet again, and for the better, or at least we hope so… Note: IED Alfa Romeo Gloria Concept and Maserati Ghibli prototype pictured in gallery By Andrei Nedelea
