New VW Golf GTI Mk7 Live Photos from Geneva and First Promo Video

They say, blind faith in evolutionary theory can be one of the world’s great evils, but Volkswagen doesn’t seem to care what anyone thinks or says when it comes to the Golf GTI, the seventh iteration of which was presented today at the Geneva Motor Show. From day one, VW has followed an evolutionary approach with the Golf GTI, and the same applies to the new model that comes in a familiar package adding a little bit more power to the mix, while also shedding a few pounds (42kg or 93 pounds, to be precise), thanks to its MQB underpinnings. The new GTI sources its power from a 2.0-liter turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine (TSI) delivering 217hp (220PS) in base trim, and 227hp (230PS) in the newly available “Performance” grade. The standard Golf GTI accelerates to 100km/h (62 mph) in 6.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 245km/h (152 mph), while the GTI Performance has a top speed of 250km/h (155 mph) and needs 6.4 seconds for the sprint to 100km/h (62 mph). Power is transferred to the front wheels via a standard 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Along with live pictures from the Geneva motor show floors, you will find two videos, including the first promotional clip for the GTI.
