Nissan will be recalling four of its own models, and one Infiniti vehicle, due to a possible problem with the passenger airbags, which may not deploy in the event of a crash. The affected models are the Sentra, Altima, Pathfinder, Leaf and the Infiniti JX35, all of which are from the 2013 model-year.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA, the fault lies with the seat-mounted sensor that detects whether or not a person is actually in the seat. Apparently, the sensor may not notice the person sitting, and the airbag may not deploy, leading to very serious injuries in the event of a more severe crash.

The number of cars recalled, as well as whether anybody was injured due to this defect, has not been specified.

Another issue was found on around 400 Sentras manufactured between September 11 and October 4 of last year. These cars’ fuel tanks were not properly sealed and may possibly lead to small leaks visible when the tanks are being filled.

Details about the entire recall are not yet available, but it has been confirmed that it is set to commence in April.
