You probably remember the Mercedes-Benz Viano that Carisma Auto transformed into a very luxurious van. Now, for its latest conversion, the company chose a car that normally doesn’t have anything that could be described as luxurious – we’re talking about the rugged Land Rover Defender.
As the UK-based aftermarket specialist usually operates, the exterior of the Defender remained untouched – which is why we don’t get to see it in the gallery (either that, or the owner wanted his or her 4×4 to remain anonymous).
Needless to say, the original interior of the Defender was completely revamped, with Carisma adding high quality leather and hand-built bespoke materials om every corner. The company says the Defender was created to be the ultimate luxury vehicle with off-road capability, but it can also be converted into a luxury armored vehicle as well.
According to Carisma, the owner can choose everything for the interior. A wide range of leathers, carpet and wood are at his or her disposal in any combination, so that no two Defenders from Carisma are the same. The company adds that the only thing limiting the way the interior looks is the client’s imagination.
The Defender can be fitted with a bespoke gun cabinet hand-crafted from wood, featuring cut-glass crystal champagne flutes and tumblers complete with separate refrigeration facilities. As with the Viano, many multimedia options are available, including on-board Windows or Apple operating systems, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as an audio system from Bang & Olufsen.
So how did Carisma think about working on the Defender? The company’s sales and marketing director, Clive Drake, best explains it. “One day a client came to me wanting a vehicle that had all of the capabilities of the Defender but with an interior ambience of a Range Rover with the feeling of pure exclusivity of a Rolls-Royce.”
