According to a report from The Detroit News, re-born EV manufacturer Detroit Electric will be forced to push back the launch of its first model, the SP:01 sports car by “at least a month”.  The information was passed on via telephone interview with the company’s North American CEO Don Graunstadt.

Graunstadt explained that the setback was caused by the choice of manufacturing space, which is a “partially occupied facility” and hopes are that an agreement will be reached soon, so that they can ramp up production to their stated 2,500 units per year.

Detroit Electric will also postpone the hiring of the 100 necessary workers, who will be selected from a job fair that the automaker will organize by the end of June.

As a result, manufacturing of the sports car will start in September instead of August,  in a turn of events that CEO Don Graunstadt calls “a little frustrating”.

Nevertheless, Graunstadt said they are still “moving forward”, with the ultimate goal of being able to build and sell a more affordable mainstream electric car (once they get the spoils from the $135,000 SP:01 sales and another sports car planned after it).
