Whether it’s good for Jeep that people are still talking about the looks of the new generation of the Cherokee four months after the first pictures of the SUV surfaced online, is still up in the air, but we’ll soon find out what it will translate in sales as the Detroit carmaker has just released pricing.

The 2014 Cherokee will arrive in dealer lots during the third quarter of the year (Jeep has yet to announce a precise date) with prices kicking off at $22,995 for the base, four-cylinder front-wheel drive Sport 4×2 and rising to $29,995 for the all-wheel drive Limited 4×4 with an inline-four. Both prices exclude a (*) $995 destination.

According to Jeep, the new Cherokee’s starting price is “$400 less than the outgoing 2012 Liberty model, which started at $23,395 for Sport 4×2 models and $25,395 for Sport 4×4 models.

All prices refer to the 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir2 I-4 engine that produces 184hp and 171 lb-ft. of torque, with Jeep offering an optional 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 gasoline unit rated for 271hp and 239 lb-ft. on all four available trim levels (Sport, Latitude, Limited and Trailhawk), though, without saying how much it costs. Both powerplants are paired to a standard new nine-speed automatic transmission.

2014 Jeep Cherokee Sport
