Nissan’s performance division Nismo and Williams Advanced Engineering have announced an agreement to collaborate on the development of high performance road cars.

In a press statement, Williams Advanced Engineering says it will use its expertise of aerodynamics, simulation and material science to help Nismo develop future products that will launch from 2014. It is not clear on which models Nismo and Williams will collaborate, but a unique Nismo model shouldn’t be written off.

Nismo is entering a phase of accelerated development, with the high-performance division to launch its third model this year, the GT-R Nismo, following the launch of the Juke Nismo and 370Z Nismo. Earlier this year, Nismo started a new era in its development as a global performance brand with the official opening of a new global headquarters in Yokohama, Japan.

“Nismo is a brand built from over 30 years of racing experience and so it is fitting that we chose to work with a like-minded company such as Williams to develop the higher performance versions of our products,” said Shoichi Miyatani, president of Nismo.

Sir Frank Williams, founder and team principal of the company, added: “Both parties share a passion for racing and cutting edge technology and this collaboration will see us work closely together to develop cars that will be at the forefront of automotive technology.”

Nissan wants Nismo to introduce at least one model every year during the Nissan Power88 period, as it wants every Nissan model to have a Nismo correspondent in the future.
