U Spy: Hyundai Preparing the Elantra Sedan for its First Facelift

Arguably, with the fifth generation of the Elantra, Hyundai took a big step forward on just about every front but in particular, the design and refinement departments, in its ongoing quest to become one of the most bestselling brands in the world. Proof of that was the North American Car of the Year title it snagged in 2012. Now in its third year in the market (sales kicked off in Korea in the fall of 2010 with the U.S. following shortly after), and with its range extended with a coupe model, the Elantra is nearing the point that models receive a mid-life facelift, which brings us to these shots from Carscoops reader Alfred H. Here’s what Alfred told us: “Took these pictures in Fullerton, CA this morning. Was wondering which model this was. Doesn’t look like the new Hyundai Mistra for the Chinese market, nor the new Genesis (not large enough and not premium enough). The side character lines, roofline, and B & C pillars look like it could be an Elantra refresh?” Alfred is spot on his assessment about this car being the Elantra sedan. While there’s not much we can tell from these pictures, the placement of the black camouflage suggests that Hyundai is working on the front and rear ends of the car – at least on the cosmetic front, because we don’t know what other changes the facelift may bring. Thanks to Alfred for the scoop shots!
