Even if you’re not a fan of Jeep’s sweeping re-think of the styling of the Cherokee in its latest incarnation, you must admit that an SRT-badged model does sound pretty interesting.

The usually well informed on Chrysler Group matters website Allpar says it has learned from an unnamed source that the Detroit carmaker has plans to release a new Cherokee SRT in the very near future.

There are no details about the powertrain at this moment, but Allpar, which shared a computer-generated image from member Suzq044 showing what the Cherokee SRT may look like, speculates that a force-fed version of Chrysler’s Pentastar V6 putting around 375hp with a single turbo and 410hp with twin-turbos, or a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with more than 300hp may be in the cards.

Currently, the Cherokee will launch onto the U.S. market with two engine options, a 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir2 unit rated for 184hp and a 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 churning out 271hp.
