The next-generation Quattro could be one of the most anticipated Audi in decades. To give us a glimpse of the Quattro Concept that will be revealed at the Frankfurt motor show in September, the brand with the four-ring logo posted a set of design sketches of the car on its Facebook page.

Audi didn’t provide any details about the study, with the description of the photo album reading “the countdown to the IAA is running. Here are some design sketches of the Audi Showcar”.

The drawings show a very aggressive design, with the front end of the car being the most imposing due not only to the massive grille, but also to the generous air intakes located under the headlights. The profile is also muscular thanks to the bulged wheel arches, large wheels and sharp air vents located behind the front fenders. Furthermore, the thick C-pillar gives the profile a distinctive look while also reminding of the original Audi Quattro.

Compared to the Quattro Sport Concept revealed in 2010, the sketches show a more aggressive approach – but then again, most of the times, sketches look meaner than the actual car. According to a report from Auto Zeitung, the pre-production study will be based on the Audi RS5 and will be longer than its 2010 predecessor, as the wheelbase has been increased from 2,600mm (102.3in) to 2,750mm (108.2in). This also means the Quattro will have normal-sized seats at the rear.

Tipped to be called the Audi Quattro Sport E-Tron concept, it is rumored to be powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine developing at least 600 horsepower. But that’s not all, as the car will also feature an electric motor, with the hybrid powertrain developing somewhere around 700 PS (690 hp). The same report says it will have an all-electric driving range of up to 35 kilometers (22 miles).

Performance is expected to be ballistic: 0 to 100 km/h in around 3 seconds and a top speed of more than 330 km/h (205 mph).
