The time is ripe for Ford to present a successor to the now seven-year old S-MAX minivan, but before it does so next year, the Blue Oval will give us a preview of the things to come with a concept model at the Frankfurt motor show in September.

It’s pretty evident from the photos that the S-MAX Concept is a production model adorned with a bevy of show car pieces like the hidden door handles, funky exhaust trims, big wheels and a premium-specked interior. Granted, the 2014 S-MAX won’t look as nifty and rich as the study, but you get the idea.

One more thing to take note about the concept is Ford’s new 1.5-liter turbocharged inline four gasoline unit that will eventually replace the existing 1.6-litre Ecoboost motor upon which it is based, offering improved power as well as economy figures. It will also be offered on the upcoming Mondeo.

Until the Frankfurt auto show kicks in and we see the car in the flesh, head past the jump for three videos of the new S-MAX MPV Concept.
