I think Infiniti is one of the least restrained automakers when it comes to designing their cars, particularly in recent years – this opinion was cemented after seeing their latest interpretation of the FX SUV for the first time and liking it quite a lot, as well as the various concepts they’ve released, and the latest Q50 too

It is therefore with great interest that I await any kind of new design they put out, because it usually ends up being interesting in some way, particularly in concept form.

Granted, the QX full-sized SUV is outrageously unattractive and looks like a cross between a beached whale and a telephone booth, but it’s an exception in an otherwise handsome range of cars.

Now, they have announced that they will be revealing a new concept, at the Frankfurt motor show. It’s called the Q30 premium compact concept, if it actually looks anything like the sketch that they released portraying a stylized interpretation of it, then it will definitely continue the trend of nice, fluid designs from Nissan’s luxury department. The sketch and it’s size suggests it’s a development of the 2011 Etherea study.

“This Infiniti Q30 Concept is a prelude to the product portfolio expansion which underpins our aggressive global growth strategy,” said Johan de Nysschen, President of Infiniti.  “In our quest to appeal to the modern, young-minded premium customer, the Infiniti Q30 Concept has a distinctive style and reaches new levels of product quality.”

Moreover, it’s the first vehicle designed under the new design leadership of Alfonso Albaisa, and according to Infiniti, it will benefit from the full input of Sebastian Vettel all throughout its transition from concept to 1-Series and A-Class rival.

“Q30 Concept is slender, sleek and seductive,” said Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti Executive Design Director. “When you see speedy big cats, like cheetahs, they have a slenderness and a lightweight stride. It’s almost like they’re floating.  That’s the muscularity we were aiming for with Q30 Concept.”

More details will be released after the sheets drop off the (hopefully) sculpted flanks of the vehicle, in around one month’s time.
