Subaru set the expectation bar quite high this year with the release of the WRX Concept at the New York Auto Show, but subsequent sightings of prototype models testing out in the open snapped us back to the reality of the Impreza body-based WRX and WRX STI performance models. We’ll still keep our fingers crossed for a future model built around the striking study…

Back to the regular, Impreza-derived WRX and STI, Autonews is reporting that the redesigned versions will debut in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show and go on sale in early 2014, adding that the Japanese carmaker will drop the hatchback and offer the sedan models only with a revamped version of its 2.5-liter turbocharged boxer unit.

In the same report that concentrates on Subaru’s upcoming offerings, it is mentioned that the new Outback wagon and Legacy sedan, as well as the facelifted Impreza series will be presented next year, with the BRZ to receive a facelift in 2015 and the Forester in 2017. A new Impreza will be introduced in late 2016 or early 2017, while the publication says that Subaru is also mulling a seven-seater crossover replacement for the Tribecca.
