After the debut of the S-Class Coupe Concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show, we have a pretty close / good idea of what the production car will look like. But what about its power sources? Well, fortunately, you don’t have to look far for an answer to that, as the Coupe will borrow its entire lineup from the new S-Class Sedan.

One of those powerplants will be the 5.5-liter twin-turbo’d V8 engine delivering 577 hp (585 PS) at 5,500 rpm and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque available between 2,250 and 3,750 rpm found on the S63 AMG saloon. It is this V8 mill that’s hiding behind the star-logo of the camouflaged prototype featured in these scoops.

Given the anticipated lower curb weight for the more compact sized S-Class Coupe, the S63 AMG version might even improve upon the sedan’s acceleration figures (0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds for the RWD sedan and 4.0 seconds for the 4Matic LWB version).

Compared to the regular models of the S-Class Coupe series that we’ve seen before in test car form, the AMG edition sports a different grille and a far more prominent bumper up front, bigger wheels and brakes, and re-shaped skirts on the sides, plus quad exhausts and a diffuser-equipped bumper at the back.

AMG-specific revisions to the chassis and interior, including sport seats, steering and trims, will round out the package.

The S63 AMG won’t be the big-daddy of the series, as this role will go to the V12-powered S65 AMG.
